The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has begun its scheduled maintenance works at the Weija Water Treatment Plant, leading to a temporary interruption in water supply to several parts of Accra.

The maintenance exercise, which started at 6:00 a.m. today, Friday, December 19, 2025, is expected to last until 6:00 p.m.

In a statement, GWCL emphasized the shutdown is necessary to carry out critical works aimed at ensuring the continuous supply of safe, reliable and sustainable water, especially during the Christmas festivities.

As a result, residents in Accra Central, Dansoman, Mallam, Weija, Gbawe, McCarthy Hill, Kaneshie, Odorkor, Korle Bu, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Abeka La Paz, Tesano, Kokomlemle, Alajo, Nima, Maamobi, Dzorwulu, Abelemkpe and adjoining communities are experiencing temporary disruptions in water supply.

Managing Director of GWCL, Adam Mutawakilu, assured customers that adequate resources and logistics have been mobilised adding that technical teams are working assiduously to complete the maintenance within the scheduled timeframe.

Production and distribution of water are expected to resume immediately after the completion of the works.

GWCL has apologised for the inconvenience caused and advised customers in affected areas to manage available water prudently until supply is fully restored.
