Former Ghana international Derek Boateng has revealed that Asamoah Gyan told him ahead of Ghana’s second group game against Czech Republic that he was going to score.

The Black Stars won their first game at the 2006 FIFA World Cup against Czech Republic in their second group game at the RheinEnergiestadion in Cologne.

Derek Boateng who was a member of the squad in an interview with Happy Sports stated that Gyan had earlier told him in training that he was going to score in the game against Czech.

“Asamoah Gyan told me he was going to score against Czech Republic. It was not the first time he had told me something like that so I wasn’t surprised when he scored in that game”, he told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy 98.9FM.

Asamoah Gyan made history as the first Ghanaian to score a FIFA World Cup goal in the game against the Czechs.

Sulley Muntari scored the second goal to wrap up the game for the Black Stars as they secured their first three points of the competition.

He is the only Ghanaian to have played in three World Cup tournaments for the Black Stars.
