2019 President’s Cup postponed due to soggy Kumasi pitch

Vice President of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Alex Akummey, has expressed GHALCA’s disappointment about the postponement of the 2019 President’s Cup between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak had to be postponed due to soggy Baba Yara pitch in Kumasi.

Kotoko and Hearts teams stormed on to the pitch hoping to slug it out for the coveted trophy but ball control was extremely difficult calling for the game to be rained-off.

Speaking on Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo Sports, Akummey said ”We are disappointed because we had to call off the match. However, it can not also be played today because Kotoko has a champions league match to play so it won’t be fair to them.

“We will be having a meeting today to find a suitable date for the game to be played. The supporters were standing in the rain throughout, so when the rain stopped, the referee checked the pitch and thought it was good for the game to be played. But just after the game commenced, it started drizzling again and so we were compelled to call off the game,” he added.
