Caretaker Minister for Finance, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has touted that President Akufo-Addo’s government has been able to weather the difficult situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He noted that despite the health and economic crisis presented by the pandemic, the Akufo-Addo administration, focused on building an economy that was resilient to these crises.

Delivering the 2021 budget statement in Parliament today, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated: “With revenue slumping and COVID-19-related expenditure rising, the Akufo Addo government was tested beyond measure. We believe it is fair to say that we rose to this extraordinary challenge.

Despite the squeeze, government succeeded in protecting virtually all jobs and incomes in the public sector. What the people of Ghana have witnessed and to the admiration of the rest of the world, is leadership and conviction that is responsible, creative, courageous decisive and above all very caring”.

The words of the Minister can be described as a rehash of the President’s statement during his State of the Nation Address some days ago.

The President explained that under his leadership, the Government has been able to find “the resource to cushion the impact of the pandemic because we are good managers of the economy and we are good protectors of the public purse”.

The President further detailed some of Government’s intervention amid the pandemic that had cushioned Ghanaians from the adverse impact of the pandemic.
