The Ghana Football Association (GFA), has confirmed that five players will miss the Black Stars game against South Africa on September 6, 2021, in Johannesburg.
Coach Akonnor will be without some of his key players following the decision of Premier League clubs not to release players for matches in COVID-19 red-list countries during the September International window.
The five players, Daniel Amartey (Leicester City), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace), Tariqe Fosu-Henry (Brentford FC), Baba Abdul Rahman (Reading FC) and Andrew Yiadom (Reading FC) will not travel with the team to South Africa.
South Africa is on the red list of the United Kingdom thus players returning from those countries will have to quarantine for up to 10 days, a move which their clubs have strongly objected to.

The five players will only be available for the game against Ethiopia on Friday, September 3, 2021, at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
Black Stars coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has been forced to hand call ups to Joseph Aidoo (Celta Vigo), Yaw Yeboah (Wisla Krakow), Daniel Kofi Kyereh ( St.Pauli) and Braydon Manu (Darmstadt) to augment his squad for the game against South Africa.
The Black Stars will open camp in Cape Coast on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, and play Ethiopia on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 7pm.
The team will be expecting a full house by the close of day today as preparations for the qualifiers begin.
