The Minority in Parliament has promised to closely examine the government’s 2024 budget statement and economic policy, as Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Baah Forson issued a strong warning.

The MP for Ajumako/Enyan/Essiam constituency emphasized the necessity of closely monitoring the budget, citing the already challenging economic conditions facing ordinary Ghanaians and businesses.

Mr. Forson articulated the Minority’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the people. He stated, “The prevailing economic conditions have already made it very difficult for ordinary Ghanaians and businesses. The Minority cannot be part of any policy measures that will exacerbate these difficulties. If the government’s 2024 budget fails to prioritize the needs of the people, they should prepare for a showdown.”

He continued, “Mr. Speaker, as the minority caucus, we have not forgotten the cries of the people of Ghana. We have consistently held the government accountable and exposed its shortcomings, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians.”

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, earlier announced that the Minister of Finance is scheduled to present the 2024 Budget Statement for the financial year on November 15, 2023.

During today’s Parliamentary proceedings, members also expressed deep concern about the ongoing exodus of young professionals from the country. The reasons cited for their departure include a lack of opportunities resulting from harsh economic conditions, poor governance, and rampant corruption.
