2024 CHAN Qualifiers: Ghana’s Black Galaxies held to a frustrating draw by Nigeria in Accra

Ghana’s Black Galaxies were held to a goalless draw by Nigeria in the first leg of their CHAN final qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, December 22, 2024.

The match was a tense battle, with both teams displaying defensive discipline. Razak Simpson of Nations FC stood out in Ghana’s defence, combining composure and solid positioning to repel Nigerian attacks. In midfield, Kotoko’s Albert Amoah impressed with his creative play but could not unlock Nigeria’s well-organized backline.

The game’s best chances came in the second half. Nigeria nearly scored when a powerful strike hit the crossbar, while Ghana’s Jerry Afriyie had a promising opportunity down the flank but failed to capitalize. Despite creating chances from the wings, Ghana’s finishing let them down, leaving the score at 0-0.

The result means the Black Galaxies must win or secure a high-scoring draw in the second leg on Saturday, December 28, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo to qualify for the CHAN tournament.

The Black Galaxies now face a challenging task in Nigeria as they fight for a spot in the East Africa tournament.
