The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has moved to quash growing uncertainty surrounding captain Thomas Partey’s availability for Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
In an interview on Happy Sports, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum confirmed that both the player and his representatives have reassured the coach that Partey will be present to feature in both fixtures—against Chad, to be played away on September 4, and Mali, to be hosted at Accra Sports Stadium on September 8.
Addressing questions over Partey’s ongoing court case,a development that has dominated headlines since his court appearance in the UK in early August, Henry Asante Twum emphasized Ghana’s stance: “We have supported him from day one, and he is aware that there is a court case ahead of him, but he has assured us that he will be able to come and join the team, and he is in the right frame of mind to play.”
He added that Partey’s recent performances for his club, Villarreal, show he’s in top form: “If you watch his two games he has so far played for Villarreal, he is in top shape and as a senior member of the team, he is ready to return, and he is ready for the games.”
The Black Stars squad is expected to assemble in Accra on September 1 ahead of the qualifiers
