Executive Member of the Consumer Protection Agency Ghana (CPA) Nana Prempeh Okogyeabour has requested that names of the over 57 Oil Marketing Companies defrauding Ghanaian consumers be mentioned.
According to him, this will be the sole determinant to deter them from the act.
Nana Prempeh Okogyeabour revealed this on Happy 98.9 FM’s current affairs show Epa Hoa Daben hosted by Kwame Afrifa – Mensah.
He stressed that consumers can best address the canker of thievery at the filling stations by ensuring that they are served using the litres symbol rather than the cedis symbol when they go to buy fuel at the various filling stations across Ghana.
According to Nana Prempeh, even though the litres can also be altered in order of stealing yet it remains the best advocacy module to curbing the canker that is eating the fabric of the Ghanaian consumer now and he said it’s the directors alone who can alter by using this formula.
“There is a code on the pump (litre ) that can only be tampered with but by directors of the stations alone and this canker can be addressed only if fuel is measured in litres instead of cedis”, he told Happy FM.
Nana has called on consumers across the length and breath of this country to report issues of fraud to the relevant authorities or stakeholders in the petroleum industry such as the Ghana Standard Authority the National Petroleum Authority, Consumer Protection Agency as well as the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Association.
