He might be in his fourth decade but Gianluigi Buffon shows no signs of stopping being one of the top goalkeepers in the world, which isn’t bad considering he’s on the verge of retirement.
No matter what happens at the end of the season the 39 year old will be retiring from football after the World Cup, should Italy get there, but before all of that he picked up and award for being the best goalie in the world for the past year.
In his speech he was seen to be holding back tears and in a really classy move he did the whole thing in English, with the awards in London, turning down the offer of an interpreter from presenter Idris Elba.
After a remarkable career that has spanned over some of the best players of his generation and seen him play with many of those it’s no surprise that the Italian legend has won so much.
It’s a shame that up to now he hasn’t yet won the Champions League but he still has time to do so in his last season with Juventus.
It would be a fitting way to end such a career if he could get his hands on the Champions League trophy or perhaps for the second time the World Cup trophy, one thing is for sure is he wouldn’t drop them!
