Dreams FC administrative Manager, Ameenu Shardow, has reaffirmed the Ghana Football Association’s position that members of Congress who had counter motions regarding the agendum of the 29th Ordinary congress should have followed the proper procedures.
During the 29th Ordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association which was held at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi on Monday, July 10, the proposed 900% presidential nomination fee adjustment was approved.
This was a result of no Congress member putting in a counter-proposal before the day of the event.
According to Ameenu Shardow, the GFA statutes state that Congress members who want their counter proposals added to the agenda should have written to the General Secretary, who would have no choice but to accept it.
He further clarified on Happy FM that Congress had to be guided by regulations in other for a smooth flow of proceedings.
“The statutes of the FA are subject to several interpretations but the power to decide is in the hands of judicial bodies and the executive council. According to the statutes and is very clear that anyone that has any counter motions should first write to the General Association. Of course, Congress and procedures must be guided by regulations and the agenda. It also allows that members who want anything added to the agenda should write to the secretary within the stipulated time before the congress”.
“If you’re Introducing a counter motion, you must also allow members the opportunity to also assess what you’ve brought forth and the basis for it so that they can research to come and buttress or talk against your counter motion. That is why there is a stipulated time for you to write to the secretary. But if you introduce it at the Congress, you’d be taking everyone by surprise.”
Ameenu Shardow further clarified that members were allowed to debate the agendum on the floor.
“Congress members were allowed to speak on the agenda on the floor not anything other than that. We asked if members had anything on the agenda on the floor and members had their hands down so it’s not like we denied any member from speaking”.
