Hearts Board Member Thomas Esso Reveals Why Vincent Atingah Didn't Extend His Contract

Hearts of Oak board member Thomas Esso has lifted the lid on why defender Vincent Atinga’s contract extension has stalled.
The towering guardsman was one of the revelations for the Phobians in the just ended Ghana Premier League campaign, scoring six goals in all competitions as the club finished 3rd in the league and 2nd in the FA Cup competition.
But reports coming out from the Phobians camp indicate that the 22-year-old’s contract has ended and the club have made incessant efforts to extend his deal but to no avail.
And during an interview with Accra-base Happy FM, Esso disclosed reasons the club and the player have failed to reach an agreement thus far.
“Atinga’s manager appraoched us after the season and said he has got a club for the player. He said even though there is no contract binding the club and the player, he would want to help Hearts of Oak benefit from his transfer hence all they need from us is an introductory letter, which will indicate that Atinga was a player of Accra Hearts of Oak,” Esso disclosed.
He added, “so we agreed and told him there’s no problem but in case he goes and the move didn’t materialize he would come back to Hearts so it will be prudent to sign a pre-contract or a temporary contract up to the end of next year February so that in case he leaves and he doesn’t find a club then he should be obliged to come back to Hearts of oak from 1st March.”
“However, Atinga’s manager blatantly rejected it, therefore we could not come to any substantial agreement, and he finally concluded that the player will go in for a floating,” he deduced.
Atinga was a stalwart for Ghana during the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations competition, where he helped the Black Stars B defeat Nigeria 4-1 in the finals.
He joined the Phobians three seasons ago from Ebusua Dwarfs.
