The over fifteen thousand personnel to be engaged as part of the Green Ghana project in collaboration with Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the Forestry Commission will earn an amount of four hundred Ghana Cedis every month as salary.
Mohammed Awal, a member of the communications team of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) made this disclosure on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show hosted by Kwame Afrifa Mensah on Accra-based Happy FM.
He said the project embarked upon by the NPP’s administration will not be like the wasteful tree planting project of the Savannah Accelerated Agency (SADA) under ex-president John Dramani Mahama.
According to him, the two years contract with the Forestry Commission to engage fifteen thousand youth is not lips service but a project to better the lots of the Ghanaian youth.
He said the two agencies involved are committed to ensuring that the funds channeled to the project are properly expended and not wasted.
He stressed that the project will not be a vehicle for some unscrupulous individuals to make money at the expense of the government.
He said under the Green Ghana project the personnel will be verified by the monitoring personnel of the Forestry Commission for working before they are paid their monthly salary.
‘This will not be a project to freely dole out government funds to cronies and family people because we are committed to seeing the country go green’ he said
He added that this will not be a project where trees will be planted in the dry season to just die away like what happened under the NDC’s administration in the three Northern regions.
