Mirwen Safi, a partially blind Graphic Designer said there is a need to shift the focus from disability to ability. Policy makers have to develop legislation, policy and practice which ensure independence, full and effective participation in all areas of the life of persons with disabilities.
In the run-up to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 December, 2017), the founder of BlindAid Ghana, Sirwen Safi and the PRO of Dream Shapers Foundation, Silvia Nana Okyerewa on etv-Ghana’s talk show ‘Live Chat With Paul’ noted that not enough has been done for people with disabilities and are urging the public and government to come to the aid of the disabled in society. “Though progress has been made we have not yet gotten to the daily reality”, Mirwen Safi said.
The Mirwen also recounted life in school and how he got blind in one eye and partially blind in the other and the challenges he had to go through after he realized he had gone blind.
Dream Shapers Foundation in partnership with BlindAid Ghana Foundation and In The Heart Of Compassionate Love Foundation are hosting persons with disabilities to a dinner fundraising event to raise funds in aid of people with disabilities on International Day of People With Disability on Sunday, 3rd December, 2017 at Children’s Park at 8am prompt.
There will be free health screening. Funds accrued from the event will be used to take care of medical bills of some disabled persons.
Watch ‘Live Chat With Paul’ on etv-Ghana every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 4pm to get educated, informed and entertained.
