Ashanti Shequolya Douglas known simply as Ashanti in the entertainment industry is making waves  with her Ghanaian name on the international scene .
Ashanti is an American singer , songwriter, record producer, dancer and actress.
In a radio interview on power 105.1 in America, morning show called Breakfast club disclosed on the show how  she got her name.
She was asked if she had seen a movie called “Ashanti” before ,
And here is what she said “Yes ! I do, but I didn’t found out till like my late teens, my mum actually bought me the DVD, and I watched the movie and I was like this is so dope and she told me that where she got my name from”
Her mother who accompanied her to the studio was asked to attest where she got the name Ashanti for her daughter…
here is what she also had to say “so basically I was in my last month of pregnancy and me and my husband hasn’t gotten a name yet, and I watched the movie. I loved it when I heard it (ASHANTI),
So I was like let me watch the movie first, because I need the analogy to be correct.
when they said it meant “woman of Strength” and it was the highest on the total pole, and a country Ghana, where the women in that tribe bear that name’.
She was first discovered as a teenager and later signed onto Murder Incorporation Record.
in 2001 that year, she was featured on Fat Joe’s “What’s Luv?” and Ja Rule’s “Always on Time”, both of which became two of the biggest hit songs of 2002; Ashanti became the first female artist to occupy the top two positions on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart simultaneously when “Always on Time” and “What’s Luv?” were at numbers one and two, respectively.
