The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed that the purported bags of thumb-printed ballot papers found in a hotel in Kumasi are fake.

According to the COP Boakye in an address to the media, the Regional EC Director  “came saying it was not part of the materials which means they are fake.”
Earlier on Monday, reports emerged that Police in Kumasi had taken possession of three bags stuffed with materials reported to be thumb-printed presidential ballot papers found at the Madison Hotel at TUC in the Ashanti Regional capital.
All the retrieved ballot papers had thumb prints for President John Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
COP Boakye, confirmed this development but noted that the retrieved ballot papers did not have serial numbers.
Citi News’ Hawa Iddrisu reported that the police acted on a tip-off from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, to apprehend the culprit whose identity has since been withheld.
Following the tip-off,  the police mobilised and raided the hotel on Monday morning and a search of the hotel revealed the three bags containing thousands of the thumb printed ballot papers.
