PROVISIONAL RESULTS: Rawlings, Karbo, Sam George, Boniface win- Sorogho, Jamal floored

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has snatched the Cape Coast North Constituency seat from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Emmanuel Ebo Hawkson reports that the NPP’s Barbara Asher Ayisi polled 19, 475 votes to beat her closest challenger Kobby Acheampong of the NDC who garnered 16, 309 votes.
Sarah Mary Buknor of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) came third with 3,251, while Peter Ceasar Kwegyir Aggrey of the Conventions People’s Party (CPP) placed fourth with 88 votes.
In the Presidential race, NPP emerged victorious with 20,360 to beat the NDC, which polled 16,998 votes.
The PPP maintained a third position with 1,492. The National Democratic Party (NDP) followed with 63 votes; CPP with 57 votes, the People National Convention (PNC) with 19 votes and Jacob Osei Yeboah, an independent candidate, polled eight votes.
SOROGHO
The National Democratic Congress’ incumbent Member of Parliament for La-Nkwantang Madina, Amadu Sorogho has lost his seat.

His competitor, the New Patriotic Party’s Boniface Saddick polled 57.97 percent of the total votes cast in that constituency as Sorogho polled 39.88 percent.

The Progressive People’s Party came third with 0.87 percent as the Convention People’s Party gathered 0.37 percent of the total votes.

A human rights Lawyer Francis Sosu lost to Sorogho in the primaries.

One of the most fiercely contested race at the time.
KARBO1
The Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party Anthony Karbo has won the Parliamentary race for the Lawra constituency in the Upper West region of Ghana.

Karbo polled 8, 704 votes as against NDC’s Bede Zieding who came close with 7, 476 votes.

The Incumbent Member of Parliament Samson Abu who decided to contest as an Independent candidate polled 5, 5651 votes while the CPP candidate had 124.

Pollster Ben Ephson tipped the former Youth Organiser of the NPP to win the seat following the skirmishes within the NDC party.

In the Ningo-Prampram constituency, Sam George also maintained the seat for the ruling NDC after he defeated E.T Mensah in the primaries.
BABAJAMAL
Deputy Employment minister Baba Jamal has lost the Akwatia parliamentary seat, certified results have indicated.

The former deputy Information minister lost the seat to the NPP’s Mercy Ama Sey, who is a hair dresser.

Jamal obtained 15,905 of the votes as against Ama Sey’s 21,433 in the Wednesday polls.

The CPP’s candidate managed to pull a paltry 133 of the votes.

Meanwhile, Afenyo Markin has retained the Effutu seat for opposition New Patriotic Party.
BAGBIN
Majority leader Alban Bagbin has retained the Nadowli/Kaleo seat with some 6923 of valid votes cast, provisional results have suggested.

He is being pursued by the PNC’s Bernard Mornah who has so far garnered 1,917 of the ballot.

This is the 6th time Mr Bagbin is winning the seat on the ticket of the NDC.

Meanwhile, former radio personality Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is in a comfortable lead in the Ofoase Ayirebi parliamentary race with about 16,845 of the votes.

John Obiri Yeboah from the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) has so far polled 8,751 while the NDC’s candidate Tom Kenneth Budu garnered 7,847 votes.
