Professor at the Faculty of Law, Governance and International Relations, and the Director of Quality Assurance at Kings University College, Prof. Kwame Agyenim Boateng has said that the comparison of the United States elections to Ghana’s election with a focus on which party wins power is unfounded.

He observed that most people make this comparison without considering certain factors that are unique to each country.

Speaking to Sefa Danquah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, he said: “People say when Republicans in the US win, NPP wins and when Democrats in the US win, the NDC will win. But nothing proves it. The country is unique from Ghana.

The only similarity may be that the Democrats are centre-left as the NDC and the Republicans are centre-right like the NPP. Americans don’t think like Ghanaians. And Ghanaians think differently based on conditions peculiar to us”.

Prof. Agyenim Boateng suggested that Ghanaians must focus on discussions that affect Ghana’s political landscape and electoral processes.

Ahead of the 2020 general elections of Ghana, some have tried to make comparisons between Ghanaian elections and the US elections, often concluding that the outcome of the US elections will determine the results of the elections in Ghana.

Recently, the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah kicked against the attempts to draw similarities between the 2020 US and Ghana presidential elections stating that such similarities were unfounded.
