Policy Analyst eyes National General Secretary position of GRASAG

Mr. Emmanuel Owusu, a Policy Analyst with a civil organization known as the Movement for Responsible and Accountable Governance (MoRAG), has officially declared his intention to contest for position of the GRASAG National General Secretary in the upcoming 2020 Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) National Delegates Congress, expected to take place from December 17-19, 2020.

Emmanuel is an MSc. Local Economic Development student at the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), Accra where he serves as the GRASAG Organizing Secretary.

Mr. Owusu is a servant leader with extensive leadership experience; some of which include Vice President and later President of University of Professional Studies SRC in 2012 and onetime best PRO of Banking & Finance Students’ Association of the same institution. He also served on the University’s Council and Clinic Management Committees during his tenure as President of the SRC.

My pledge- Building a GRASAG Beyond Bursaries.

This is Emmanuel Owusu’s pledge to build a “GRASAG Beyond Bursaries”

“I believe GRASAG is capable of doing more to improve the lives of its students and that is what I intend to do. We cannot continue to claim that accessing bursaries is the only need of graduate students, although they are essential. But I believe that a national organization like GRASAG can do more. We need to empower our graduate students and give them the required help to access opportunities that will make them more competitive during and after their graduate studies.”

In the wake of COVID-19, many things have changed in the world and GRASAG must also evolve in its operations, thus be innovate in our quest to defend and support the interest of graduate students in Ghana.

In the coming weeks, I will outline my policy statement but to give you a teaser of what it will entail, allow me state that we need to establish a GRASAG POLICY FORUM, a think tank to contribute to national development, to engage with industry stakeholders on the need to conduct need-based research, organize GRASAG Business Clinics to support graduates who are entrepreneurs with new trends of requisite skills and knowledge, and to engage the Telcos to support our graduate students with free data services in our research studies.

For our local GRASAG institutions, we need to establish an information management system to make communication and information dissemination effective and efficient.

In view of the above, I wish to seek the unflinching support and guidance of all Institutional GRASAG Executives and the general public as I seek to serve as the next GRASAG National General Secretary.
