Editor of the Informer Newspaper, Andy Kankam has described the minority’s walk to the premises of the Electoral Commission (EC) yesterday as disgraceful.

According to him, the Members of Parliament (MP) who should have known better acted in such an irresponsible way which could have caused them bodily harm.

A scuffle ensued between the police and some NDC legislators who were walking from the Parliament House to the offices of the Electoral Commission on Tuesday with a petition demanding open collation of the Techiman South parliamentary results.

Led by the Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu and the Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak, the legislators were prevented from going beyond a barricade around the Ridge Roundabout in Accra. The police said they were not aware of any walk by the Minority to the EC offices.

Speaking with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, Andy Kankam said, “What happened at the premises of the EC yesterday was very disgraceful. It was Ghana’s day of shame. If you want to engage in a protest, you need to notify the police for your own protection. If you do so, the police will provide you with protection.

But looking at the Minority MPs yesterday, they did not have any permit and no police escort. So what if as they were forcing their way through the barricade, the police used maximum force and it all ended disgracefully” he asked.

The journalist advised the NDC to first go to court if they do not agree with the outcome of the elections rather than make demonstrations their first option. “In 2012, I was very loud in telling the NPP to go to court over the elections. If the NDC is now facing the same problem, they should also go to court. If they are in court, then, they can also demonstrate”, Andy stated.

On his authotity, the actions of the NDC towards the results of the election is in poor taste and asked the party to exercise patience and properly stage a coordinated comeback in 2024.
