The Director-General for the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi, says plans are far advanced for the safe return of football fans to the various match venues in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

Football fans had been barred from attending match venues since March last year due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

Government had indicated a return of football fans to various stadia prior to the start of 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season but later rescinded that directive as COVID-19 cases were on the rise in October last year.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Tuesday 5 January 2021, signed by the Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, the government has lifted the ban on football fans as 25 per cent will be admitted to the various stadia.

The NSA which will be ensuring the safety of fans at the various venues indicated they are prepared and have laid down plans for all COVID-19 protocols to be observed.

Speaking in an interview on Happy Sports with Ohene-Bampoe Brenya, Professor Peter Twumasi detailed some measures to be put in place as the various venues will be opened to the public.

“We are going to print tickets and also indicate where the fans will sit at the various stadia. The NSA will provide safety equipment at the match venues as the fans come in”

“The NSA will be working together with Health authorities and the security to ensure full compliance of the COVID-19 protocols at the various venues. We are going to have personnel deployed to the stands to also ensured that those who are inside the venue obey the directives”.

Only 25 per cent of fans will be admitted at the various stadia according to the release by government.
