Educationalist advises GES to hasten the PPEs to schools process

Senior lecturer at the Accra Technical University, Dr. Daniel Osabutey has called on the Ghana Education Service(GES) and Government to hasten processes in supplying schools with Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) promised by the President prior to schools reoepning.

He believes these PPEs are critical in keeping students safe from the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to him, he was not surprised when the president announced that schools were reopening on January 15, 2021 because, “students have been home for close to 9 months and they’ve been yearning to go back to school. Even parents were yearning for their wards to go back. But their question was, is government prepared for the reopening?”

Speaking on the Factsheet Show to Samuel Eshun on e.TV Ghana, he made known, “I was looking forward to see better arrangements prior to the reopening of schools but unfortunately that did not happen”.

Citing an example from the 2020 batch of WASSCE and BECE students who sat for their exam, he mentioned, “these people were able to go through all the issues that came up during the process successfully. This was done even though they faced the problems of inadequate PPEs and some students not going by the protocols.

He added that he has seen some efforts being put in place by all but expects the government to have learnt from the past. “Gov’t needs to put in more efforts to prepare towards this course”.

He urged authorities to speed up the processes put in place to ensure that students get to study in a safe and conducive environment.
