The National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), formerly the National Inspectorate Board (NIB) is urging both private and public schools that have recorded positive cases of COVID-19 to disclose the information to the relevant authorities.

According to NaSIA, they have received reports mostly from concerned parents and members of the general public that some schools are withholding information of reported COVID-19 cases.

“We are strongly urging all schools to adopt an all-hands-on-deck approach to defeating our common enemy-The Corona Virus by committing to transparency and full disclosure when a case of COVID-19 is recorded on their school premises,” Dr Haggar Hilda Ampadu, Inspector-General of Schools said in a press release.

She added that NaSIA has dispatched a team of Inspectors who are currently conducting COVID-19 Compliance Inspections in schools nationwide.

Dr Hilda Ampadu advised parents not to send their wards to school when they show symptoms of COVID-19 and to alert the School authority on the situation.

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, has revealed that 73 students have tested positive for Coronavirus in the Eastern Region.

He said at a press briefing held in Accra on Tuesday, February 9 that nine members of staff also tested positive from Coronavirus in the Eastern Region.

“As at 28th January 2021, a total of 553 samples were tested with 82 positives,” he said.

He added that “the cases were made up of 73 students, and 9 staff. Males constitute [52 (63.4%] the majority of the confirmed cases.”

He noted that “on 31 January 2021, a total of 55 samples were collected from the students and tested with 13 confirmed as positive.”
