Former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ayensuano Constituency, Samuel Ayeh-Paye has admitted that he has still not recovered from the impact of all the money he spent on the last elections that he lost.

According to him, it takes some time to heal from you losing all money that you invest in an election and as such he is learning to recover.

Speaking to Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, he expressed: “I have not recovered from the impact of spending so much on the elections that I lost. You cannot recover so early because our politics have become so expensive.

In my experience in active politics since 2004, I contested the NPP primaries in Ayensuano and lost. I came back in 2008 to contest the primaries right to the general election. And one thing that I have told myself not to do is that I will record my expenses to know how much cost I incurred. That is my personal decision. I have won and lost elections so keeping account of how much I have spent is not something I will do”.

Speaking on how he funded his campaigns in elections he has contested, he revealed that he had some money from his personal business and working in the Government sector.

Speaking on how politicians lavishly spend on campaigns, Ayeh-Paye shared that as a country, if we wish to control the excessive spending on money in campaigns in our democracy, we must educate the electorates and holistically have conversations on how much is acceptable in the campaign season.

Samuel Ayeh-Paye, lost his seat as MP for Ayensuano to NDC’s Nana Yaw Teddy Addy.
