Ghana being ranked 2nd most peaceful country in Africa sounds like PR gimmick – CPP’s Yaa Jantuah

The General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Akyimpim Jantuah says the Inspector-General of Police’s now popular “only heaven has no crimes” statement is false.

According to the outspoken and firm politician, just as the rebellion in heaven was fought by angels, so should the Ghana Police Service effectively fight crime in the country without excuses.

“No place is cool in Ghana and the IGP shouldn’t have made that statement. Even in heaven when there was a rebellion, God charged the archangel Michael to end the rebellion and he did. Here on earth and in Ghana, the IGP is the host of Ghana Police and needs to fight and protect us,” he told Don Kwabena Prah on the Epa Hoa Daben political talk show.

She indicated that there is no safe place currently in Ghana and that needs to be resolved immediately. “The NPP and IGP are refusing to accept the fact that we are in a terrible security situation and that is sad. We joke a lot with our security as a country.”

Nana Yaa Jantuah attributed the increasing crime rates to youth unemployment in Ghana. “If employment opportunities are created for the youth, crime will be a thing of the past and that is what the CPP seeks to do as a country.”

The Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Buanoh replying to critics who said he was not on top of security issues following the recent robbery cases in the country said there is no society in the world where there is no crime.

“We are doing what we can to protect the people of Ghana. There is no society in the world where there is no crime. Even in the USA, UK and Sweden, where they, more or less have everything, they still have crime. The only place that doesn’t have crime is heaven and we are not in heaven,” James Oppong-Boanuh said.

“So, if any so-called security analyst is saying that we are not on top of our game and that’s why these things are happening, he does not know what he is talking about,” he said while addressing journalists after commiserating with the family of late Constable General, Emmanuel Osei, who was shot by some armed robbers on Monday, June 14, 2021.

His comments have since then received lots of backlash from the Ghanaian populace and many security experts who say it was unnecessary and unfortunate.
