Ten-Multipurpose Stadia: Happy 98.9 FM set to update Ghana on progress thus far

Happy 98.9FM from 23 August 2021 will embark on a project, that seeks to check the progress of work on the ongoing construction of the multipurpose youth and sports centers across the country.

It was with joy that the sports fraternity in Ghana embraced the construction of ten multipurpose stadia across the regions of Ghana. Four years down the line, none of the ten has been completed. The excitement that the facilities will nurture sporting talents and ensure sports development in Ghana has been deflated like a hot air balloon pierced with a pin.

It can be recalled that Happy FM in 2020 toured the various constructions sites to ascertain the progress of work done on the multipurpose sports centres and found them abandoned. The station is embarking on the project again to update Ghanaians on the state of these stadia.

Speaking about why Happy 98.9FM is working on this project, the Head of Sports Odiasempa Kwame Oware said: ‘’Last year we went around checking up on the status of the multipurpose stadia and found them at various stages of completion, and we updated Ghanaians in general and our listeners in particular. So we are going back to see if the stadia have seen any progress because even if the ten stadia were snails, they would have reached their destination in one year.’’

He also mentioned that Ghana is fast losing its credentials as a force to reckon with when it comes to sports in the sub-region.

‘’Ghana is not where it used to be in sports, one of the contributing factors of Ghana’s dwindling fortunes when it comes to sports is lack of training facilities. That is why it is very important to ensure the stadia are completed and put to good use. And Happy Sports will bring these issues to the attention of duty bearers for the appropriate actions to be taken,’’ he stated.

He encouraged everyone interested in the welfare of Ghana sports to tune in to Happy 98.9 FM, for an update on the construction of the ten multipurpose stadia come Monday 23rd August.

‘’We will start the updates on Monday, so you can join us on radio and via social media to see for yourself, what is happening with the stadia four years after the sod-cutting ceremony by the then Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah,’’ he said.
