Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen has advised the Convention People’s Party (CPP) to focus on building their tradition rather than living on past glories.

His advice comes after the General Secretary of the CPP, Nana Yaa Jantuah touted that Kwame Nkrumah is the only founder of Ghana.

Obiri Boahen reacting to the comments by the General Secretary told Sefa Danquah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show: “Is this debate even necessary? Currently, how many MPs does the CPP even have in parliament? How many followers do they even have?

Why do they keep basking in past glories always touting that Nkrumah was the only founder. I think we need to move forward.
We have had these debates from the 1950 till now, and yet they don’t have any single MP in parliament”.

Obiri Boahen further admonished the CPP to learn from the Danquah tradition on which the NPP was built and do same for themselves.

Today, 21st September, 2021 marks Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day; a day set aside to remember and honour the country’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Dr Nkrumah became the leader of government business in 1951 after leading the CPP to victory to form a government, a process which eventually led the Gold Coast to independence from British rule in 1957.

He also played a key role in the formation of the then Organisation of African Unity (OAU).

As the leader of the country, Dr Nkrumah led massive socio-economic development that resulted in a number of infrastructural projects, including the construction of the Akosombo Dam, the Tema Motorway, among other projects.
