Gov’t to acquire new presidential jet- Eugene Arhin

Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi has warned the minority in parliament and others to stop inciting Ghanaians against the government over the acquisition of a presidential jet.

It had emerged that the government of Ghana was in the process of acquiring a new and bigger presidential jet.

This news led the minority in parliament and Ghanaians to question why the government seeks to purchase a new aircraft.

But MP for Asante Akyem North in the Ashanti Region, Andy Appiah Kubi says Ghanaians are making conclusions on the proposal without having the full details of this proposal.

During an interview with Happy FM’s Don Prah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, he cautioned: “It is not right to preempt government proposal that has not been publicized. When the proposal is out through a memorandum, it will inform us on the details but if we conclude on the matter before we get the details of the proposal, then that will mean that we are taking a political stance even before the justification of the decision informs our reasoning”.

He observed that already some have begun a survey on whether Ghanaians agree with government on the purchase of a presidential jet. “It is not fair or scientific to make a survey without adequate information and education. If you do a survey and want people to respond out of sentiments, by all means they will respond out of the absence of information”, he added.

The Minority in Parliament has said it will resist all attempts by the Akufo-Addo led administration to purchase a bigger presidential jet for the country.

This follows the announcement by the Director of Communications at the presidency, Eugene Arhin that the government plans to purchase a new presidential jet to cater for presidential travels.

Eugene Arhin said the Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, has already begun the processes for Ghana to procure the new jet.
