MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch

MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has reduced some of its intercity bus services to focus on intracity operations in Accra, aiming to ease transport challenges in the capital. This move involves scaling down long-distance routes, such as those to Kumasi and Cape Coast, to allocate more buses to high-demand intracity routes like Adenta, Kasoa, Amasaman, and Nsawam. The decision follows directives from the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to support private transport operators during peak hours. MMTL is currently operating with a limited fleet of 115 buses, down from over 1,000 when it started in 2004, but is working to maximize available resources. This initiative aims to boost MMT’s operations, improve service coverage, and reduce congestion pressures in major urban centers. “We are committed to improving transport services in Accra and ensuring that our buses are deployed where they are most needed,” said an MMTL spokesperson. The public is encouraged to take advantage of the enhanced intracity services, and MMTL apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the reduction in intercity services.

A business Manager for the Human Resource Focus Africa conference and award program, Daniel Annan has shared key areas of a human resource manager’s work other than the ones limited to the general public, while calling for a high level of respect for them.

He enlightened viewers and listeners in an interview with Samuel Eshun on Happy Morning Show (#HappyHMS) aired on e. TV Ghana and Happy 98.9FM.
“The job of HR cannot be understated. It is so key in the sense that every organization is made up of people and if you’re going to get people to get you a particular result, it starts from identifying the right result.”

According to him, the role of HR has changed from the times where they just do administrative work to making sure the organization has the right people for the right job. “They now focus on people that would get them the kind of results they want, and proceeding to groom these kinds of people to get them good results week in week out and day in day out,” he said.

He believes that the role of HR is as important as the CEO as they are responsible for the group of people working in the organization. “The HR role has really metamorphosed to being key in the sense that for us HR is number two that’s from the CEO to HR before finance or marketing,” he concluded.

Other additional human resource responsibilities include compensation and benefits, recruitment, firing, and keeping up to date with any laws that may affect the company and its employees.

The HR Focus Conference and Awards 2021 presents the opportunity to award excellence in HR Practice across the world of work in Ghana. According to the HR Focus Team, this year, there will be added award categories to reward best practice of HR Practitioners, business leaders and organisations that have shown exceptional feats during the fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Interested business leaders and HR Practitioners can nominate themselves at events.hrfocusuniverse.com/hrfocusawards.
