Kwaku Owusu Banahene, a Communication team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has claimed, the introduction of the new taxes would be channelled to satisfy the lavish lifestyle of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP).

He suggested the Akufo-Addo-led government does not consider the relevant problems of Ghanaians but instead focuses on making personal wealth during its administration.

Mr. Banahene expressed this at the back of the expected additional taxes in the yet to be read 2022 budget, which has left various Ghanaians, particularly, the drivers unions frustrated and distressed.

Speaking to Don Kwabena Prah on the Epa Hoa Daben show on Happy98.9 FM, he stated, “I’ve heard the recent release by Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State at the Finance Ministry hinting on possible new taxes in the ‘Serwaa Broni’ 2022 budget.

The NDC Communication member explained the reason behind the name “Serwaa Broni” budget was due to the costly living of the NPP government. “We’ve already given that name to the budget because we Ghanaians are just going to pay money directly to the Presidency to satisfy the extravagant lifestyle of the President and his members. We haven’t experienced any President who lives as luxuriously as the current President, Nana Akufo-Addo. The more we address this the worse it gets, he’s intolerant and has no respect for Ghanaian citizens,” he cried.

Kwaku Owusu Banahene equally insisted they would keep on highlighting the concerns of the aggrieved drivers until the situation is resolved, and the standard of living in the country is improved.

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning is expected to deliver the 2022 budget before Parliament on November 17, 2021, previously scheduled for November 15, 2021.

The presentation of the budget is in accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution and section 21 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).
