Deputy Head of Public Relations at Global Media Alliance (GMA), Ekow Quandzie has explained the significance of social media in today’s world of public perception, urging individuals and companies to exercise extreme caution as it can either tank or elevate their brands.

Social media is the go to of the Gen Z and is the topmost medium one can chose in gaining their attention “and it has become important to us as PR Practitioners.”

He defined social media as “an extension of you so whatever you say can reach a large number of people across diverse geographical regions simultaneously.”

Using the ‘Year of Return’ and ‘Beyond the Return’ initiatives spearheaded by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) as cases in point, he applauded them for the extent to which they utilized social media to amplify the initiatives and put their brand out there. “They’ve done this so well that every Christmas you see everyone trooping to Ghana and now with a lot of others also connecting via social media as it has become an important part of the eco system now.”

Sharing his insights on the topic ‘Building a Strong Brand Image: The Role of Public Relations Practitioners’ on the Happy Morning Show with Samuel Eshun, he tipped social media as giving a wide reach over traditional media. “Traditional media will give you originality and credibility but social media is an extension of what you want to say and how far you want to go.”

An ardent social media user himself, he confessed be rarely takes the contacts of acquaintances and colleagues as he can easily interact with them on the numerous socials, proof of the proliferation of the medium.

Ekow Quandzie further advised individuals to protect their brands by being watchful of what they say and share on social media as Human Resource (HR) now use them as yardsticks for employment. “This are some of the things making social media integral in this day and era.”

Global Media Alliance (GMA) is a focused Integrated Media & Entertainment Company with over 20 years of experience and expertise in Broadcasting, Public Relations and Media Consultancy, Events Management, Creative Services, Digital and Brand Marketing.

The company is currently the reigning PR Consultancy in Ghana, receiving the recognition from the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Ghana National Excellence Awards and Presidential Ball held at Akosombo.
