The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwabre East, Joseph Amankwah, has called for the immediate resumption of the stalled Mamponteng Market reconstruction project, which has been inactive since 2013.

Speaking to reporters, Amankwah emphasized the economic toll the delay has taken on residents, whose livelihoods now depend almost entirely on trading due to the disappearance of farmland.

“Formerly it was farming, and now farms are nowhere. There’s no land. Houses are springing up everywhere, and the people are now into trade. If it’s trading, then it has to be market.”

He lamented the lack of a proper marketplace, noting that traders are forced to operate under poor conditions, which has significantly reduced the Assembly’s internally generated funds.

“The people are yearning to see this edifice come to light. If you go to the Assembly and see our revenue figures, you’ll be shocked. We need this market to survive economically.”

The MCE has urge government and stakeholders to prioritize the project to restore economic activity and improve living conditions in the municipality.
