Ghana has eased the compulsory wearing of face masks at public places, effective Monday, March 28, 2022.

This was announced during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s 28th address to the nation on measures taken against the spread of the coronavirus.

Reacting to this new directive, Managing Editor of the Custodian Newspaper, Awudu Mahama, indicated that regardless of the wearing of nose masks being voluntarily now, Ghanaians still need to put their personal safety in their hands.

“The President has lifted the restrictions and now the wearing of face masks is no more compulsory. It is now more binding on us as citizens to safeguard ourselves. When you go somewhere and feel you are at risk, you have to protect yourself, hence it is recommended you wear a nose mask,” he told Samuel Eshun on the Editors’ Take edition of the Happy Morning Show.

He admitted that with this new directive, no one can force others to wear their face masks but he recommends the wearing of face masks in schools and work places are enforced.

After the announcement, the president urged Ghanaians to continue adhering to enhanced hygienic practices such as the washing of hands.

“I encourage all of you, though, to continue to maintain enhanced hand hygiene practices, and avoid overcrowded gatherings.”

The president also announced the easing of various restrictions including reopening the country’s land and sea borders as well as the no more negative PCR test for fully vaccinated travellers via the Kotoka International Airport.

President Akufo-Addo attributed the eased restrictions on the reduced number of active cases in the country.
