The Black Galaxies took a giant step in qualifying for the 2023 Africa Nations Championship after defeating the CHAN Eagles of Nigeria 2-0 in the first leg at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Ghana eliminated Benin in the preliminary round of the qualifiers to set up a clash against Nigeria for a ticket to the CHAN tournament.

Ghana started off on a bright note and made their intent clear with the first opportunity in the game going in the way of Daniel Afriyie Barnie.

The Nigerians were compact in midfield and defense causing Ghana coach Annor Walker to tweak his formation before the end of the first half.

Tema Youth winger Evans Wusu ws replaced by Real Tamale United captain David Abagna Sandam. David Abagna brought the needed stability in the Ghana midfield.

Daniel Afriyie Barnie scored from the spot kick in the 48th minute to give the Black Galaxies the lead. It was the third goal of the Hearts of Oak star in the ongoing CHAN qualifiers.

Seidu Suraj scored the second goal of the game with a tap in from a cross to give Ghana a comfortable lead going into the second leg.

The Black Galaxies have failed to qualify for the tournament in the last three editions.

Ghana will travel to Abuja to face the CHAN Eagles of Nigeria in the second leg at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium next weekend.
