Head Coach of Great Olympics, Yaw Preko, argues the performance of the Black Stars in friendlies ahead of the 2022 World Cup is not a definite indication of their would be performance at the tournament.

He described friendly games as experimental games meant to assess the performance of the team and primarily, opponents.

With tactical performance his priority, he insists the friendlies played by Ghana has equipped the Black Stars technical team with information on the opponent, advising their strategy on how to face such teams in the tournament.

“Friendly matches are experimental basis. Our game against Brazil, assessing from player to player, the Brazilians are far more better than us. So, playing against a team like Brazil is an assessment of the team. From the game they played, you can see they have changed their playing tactic and now use the flanks more than the middle,” he told Ohene Bampoe Brenya in the Happy Sports Dialogue on the topic; ‘Is Ghana Ready For The World Cup?

According to him, the knowledge gained from the Brazil game will protect the Black Stars against Brazil or any team which plays with the same style in the world cup.

Friendlies are actually meant to aid technical teams assess the game and know where to match up and prepare. Although most Ghanaians were focused on results in the last two friendlies played by the Black Stars, the coach posits the knowledge gained in the matches has added to the wealth of the technical team.
