General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has advised the opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC) to eschew violence.

He described the NPP as a party which loves Ghana, insisting it will do all within its capacity to prevent violence engulfing the country.

Speaking about the 10th National Delegates Congress of the NDC, Justin Frimpong Kodua said, “We condemn any acts of violence and hooliganism which took place at the NDC’s National Delegates Congress. We appeal to them that there is no place for violence in the body of politics in Ghana.”

Addressing the press from the party’s headquarters, he urged the NDC’s leadership to rid the party of its addiction to violence. “Former President Mahama said there is no political party which can compete with the NDC when it comes to violence. We the NPP cannot and will not compete with the NDC in terms of violence because we love our nation.”

To him, the NDC turned its delegates congress into a war zone and the NPP’s General Secretary appealed to the general public to provide any information which could lead to the arrest and prosecution of thugs involved in violence at the NDC’s national congress in Cape Coast.

Police are on a manhunt for some sixteen persons following violent disturbances at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women’s Organiser and National Youth Organiser congress held in Cape Coast on Saturday, December 10, 2022.

A statement issued by the Police, said “while proceedings were ongoing at the Congress two rival groups violently clashed throwing stones, blocks, sticks, clubs, chairs among others, causing injury to three persons and destruction to property”.

The police have placed a bounty of GH¢10,000.00 on the suspects, calling on the public to assist the police in the arrest.

As a respecter of multi-party democracy, Justin Frimpong Kodua congratulated the NDC for finally electing ‘competent leaders’ to man their affairs. “A hearty congratulations to the newly elected executives of the NDC. It is imperative we build a robust democracy and the NPP wants to contests the 2024 election with a united and not a disintegrated NDC. This way when we beat them, they do not say they had weak leadership,” he added.
