Exclusion of home-based players from Black Stars is a true reflection of Ghana’s League – GHALCA boss

Kudjoe Fianoo, Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), believes the decision of Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton to not include any home-based player in Ghana’s squad ahead of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers defines the poor level of competitiveness in the Ghana Premier League(GPL).

Black Stars boss, Chris Hughton during his unveiling as the new technical head of the senior national team promised to monitor the local League in other to scout more local players for the Black Stars.

Hughton, who was seen at match venues closely monitoring the performances of the local players, however, did not include any local player in his squad for the Madagascar AFCON qualifier, a decision many have questioned.

However, Mr. Fainoo believes this decision from Hughton was the right call.

“Currently, does the Ghana Premier League have a team that can compete in Africa and replicate what Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko has done in the past? Honestly, we’d all disagree because we do not. So Chris Hughton’s decision to exclude home-based players is a true reflection of what is happening in the league” he said on Happy FM.

Meanwhile, Ghana is scheduled to battle it out with Madagascar in the Group E of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on June 11
