Mr. Asare Kuffour, Head of Science Department at Mary Mother of Good Counsel School, led participants through a practical session on growing trees at Ghana’s maiden EARTH Summit, held at Mensah Sarbah Hall, University of Ghana, on September 26, 2026.
Organised by the *Planeteer Alliance*, the youth arm of the Captain Planet Foundation and hosted by Nana Akua Karikari; a young Ghanaian planeteer, the Summit brought together young people for environmental education and practical activities.
Mr. Kuffour took participants through the importance of trees and practical considerations for growing and caring for them before engaging them in a hands-on exercise.
The activity was followed by the distribution of Veitchia palm seedlings, with each participant receiving a seedling to take home and plant, extending the lessons of the Summit beyond the event.
The programme also featured a session by Toluwalase Abiona, West African Regional Coordinator of the Planeteer Alliance, who introduced participants to the Alliance and explained how they could become Planeteers.
A further hands-on session on source separation, led by Heneba Kwadwo Safo, leader of the BuzStopBoys, introduced participants to responsible waste management through practical demonstrations and games.
The activities reinforced the Summit’s central message that environmental protection requires not only awareness but also practical action.
Through the sessions, participants gained knowledge and practical experience they could apply in their homes, schools and communities.
