Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Bagbin, leadership, Acting Clerk and Deputies and Staff of Parliament joined in the national tree planting exercise dubbed “Green Ghana Day.”

On Friday June 9 2023, at the Parliament House, in Osu-Accra, the Speaker led the exercise during which some seedlings were planted, on the precincts of the House and official residence.

Speaker Bagbin, in a speech before the exercise, said, “the Parliament of the Republic remains committed to the promotion of a sustainable green environment in Ghana.”

He said the planted seedlings needed to be nursed, nurtured and monitored for proper growth and maturity.

According to the Speaker, trees are the biggest plants on the planet and are very essential for life, and “their importance cannot be underrated as their function expand to meet the needs generated by our modern lifestyles.”

Speaker Bagbin believed that the Green Ghana Project was a special opportunity to recover lost vegetation.

The national tree-planting exercise was held in the 275 Constituencies simultaneously.

Speaker Bagbin, had directed a no-sitting for MPs on the Green Ghana Day to enable them to go into their constituencies and lead the exercise.

Green Ghana is an initiative of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that aims at planting across the country.

Some of the trees being planted are timber, Wawa, Dawa Dawa, mango, and rosewood, cashew and shea- butter.
