President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addi Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has expressed profound satisfaction with the successes chalked so far with the Green Ghana Initiative.

According to President Akufo-Addo the success of the initiative is largely attributable to the resilience of the implementing ministry and other key stakeholders.

The President, delivering the keynote address at the commemoration of 2023 edition of the Green Ghana Day which took place at University of Ghana Basic School Park, Legon – Accra, said he was particularly happy with the value Ghanaians have placed on the Green Ghana Day Initiative. There is every indication, President Akufo-Addo intimated, that Ghanaians have embraced the Green Ghana Day Initiative.

According to President Akufo-Addo, his government is committed to any intervention aimed at correcting the menace of forest degradation in Ghana. He says, the glaring impact of global warming, the world over meant that states and individuals take up the responsibility of protecting as well as improving on existing vegetative cover to reduce the negative consequences of global warming.

According to President Akufo-Addo, global greenhouse gases need to fall and one of the ways in augmenting this effort at reducing greenhouse gases is planting of trees.

The Lands and Natural Resources Ministry with partners has, for the third successive time, commemorated the Green Ghana Day 2023 under the theme, “Our forest, our health.

The objective for this year is to plant additional 10 million trees nationwide this year.

President Akufo-Addo has thus admonished citizens, particularly children, to cultivate the habit of planting and nurturing for trees to safeguard Ghana’s ecosystem.

Over 25 million trees have been planted nationwide under the initiative for the past two years. About 23 million of these trees can be accounted for according the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry.
