Ghana ranked 24th best team in Qatar World Cup

Ghana’s Black Stars have moved up to 59th in FIFA men’s world rankings, which was released on Thursday, June 29.

This reflects an improved performance by the four-time African champions under the guidance of newly appointed head coach, Chris Hughton, who took charge in March.

Under Hughton’s leadership, they have remained unbeaten, securing a victory against Angola in Kumasi and two draws. These positive results have positioned Ghana well in their quest to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

While currently ranked 59th in the world, Ghana are the 11th best team in Africa. Morocco, the first African side to reach the World Cup semi-finals, lead the African rankings, followed by Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt in the top five.

Other prominent African countries in the rankings include Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso, completing the top 10.

On the global scale, reigning world champions Argentina retain their position at the top of the rankings, with France and Brazil closely trailing in second and third place, respectively.

Notably, England has surpassed Belgium to claim the fourth spot, while Croatia has also moved ahead of the Netherlands. Italy, Portugal, and Spain round out the top 10 teams in the rankings.

Looking ahead, the Black Stars will resume their AFCON qualifying campaign in September with a must-win game against Central African Republic.
