Don’t allow Akufo-Addo to speak at any NPP rally – Solomon Owusu cautions Justin Frimpong-Kodua

Communication member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Solomon Owusu believes that President Akufo-Addo is responsible for the party’s recent loss in the just-ended Assin North by-election.

In a recent interview on Happy 98.9 FM’s “Epa Hoa Daben” socio-political talk show, Solomon Owusu recommended that President Akufo-Addo should refrain from speaking at any future New Patriotic Party (NPP) rallies.

Owusu cited several reasons to support his stance, emphasizing that the President has completed his job and should now step back from the campaign trail.

“There’s no way President Akufo-Addo should be allowed to speak at any NPP rally. He has finished his job. He’s same person who went to Odododiodio to campaign and mentioned Nii Lante Vanderpuye instead of Bannerman. That was one of the instrumental factors that made NPP lose in that constituency,” he said.

Mr. Owusu called for a fortified campaign strategy, asserting that under no circumstances should the President be given a platform to address party supporters.

According to him, the President’s national approval rating is declining, and his goodwill is diminishing rapidly.

“So to our General Secretary who says he’s open for recommendations, here’s one important one. He’s done every campaign he needed to do and now as part of a fortified strategy, under no circumstance should he be allowed to speak at any rally. The President’s National rating is dying and goodwill is literally dying,” he said.

Mr. Owusu’s comments come after the just-ended Assin-North by-election where NDC’s James Gyakye Quayson was re-elected MP of the constituency. Quayson polled 17,245 votes representing 57.56 percent of the valid votes cast with the New Patriotic Party candidate, Charles Opoku coming second with 12,630 votes representing 42.15 percent.

The Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) candidate Sefenu Bernice Enyonam got 87 votes representing 0.29 percent.
