The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has vetted its first flagbearer candidate Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a former minister of trade and industry, in the run-up to the presidential primaries on November 4.

The committee, which was led by Prof. Mike Oquaye, conducted Mr. Kyerematen’s vetting on Monday, July 3.

The former Ghana Ambassador to the US was the first to submit his forms after picking them at GH¢50,000 when nominations opened last month.

Interacting with journalists after his vetting, Mr Kyerematen described the process as “familiar and comfortable” as it is not his first in the history of the party. He’s contested the primaries since 2007.

He failed to give details of the exercise in strict adherence to the ruling party’s guidelines.

“It is not appropriate for us to discuss issues that have been discussed in camera. That has been the tradition and practice of our party.”

The former Trade Minister highlighted his upcoming innovation of public durbars across the country as he begins his campaign to canvass the support of delegates of the NPP.

The public durbars begin on Tuesday, July 4 in the Greater Accra Region.

Energy expert Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will also be vetted on Monday.

The seven others will take their turns from Tuesday to Thursday, July 6.
