New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant and Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, has disclosed that Ghana would not have asked help from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) if they had paid attention to his contributions and ideas.

According to him, he suggested during the President’s Special Initiatives (PSI) which was former President John Agyekum Kuffour’s administration’s game changing concept could transform Ghana’s economic path but no one heeded his suggestion.

Talking about his contribution to the country’s development, he stated that sometimes he is ashamed talking about it.

He believes that if his role in introducing the President’s Special Initiatives during former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration and suggestions had been embraced by Ghanaians, the country would not have resorted to seeking assistance from the IMF.

The strategic intent of the PSIs, according to the then NPP government, was to move Ghana’s economy beyond HIPC status and reduce the country’s over-dependence on aid and donor support and a few commodity exports by finding new pillars of growth.
