The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Value Bill, 2021 has been taken through the second reading.

The bill which was laid in parliament on 2nd August 2021 has finally been debated and deliberated upon.

The bill after being referred to the Constitutional Legal and Parliamentary Affairs committee has received 200 memorandums from the general public.

Presenting the committee’s report, the Chairman Mr. Kwame Anyimadu Antwi noted that, the majority of Ghanaians were in favour of the passage of the bill. However, there are significant human rights concerns which are worthy of consideration.

He stressed that the committee sought the opinion and concerns of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice. He therefore recommended the House adopt and sanction the report.

The ranking member of the committee, Mr. Bernard Ahiafor emphatically stated that it is abnormal to consider the LGBTQI+ act inhumane because even in the animal kingdom male animals meet female ones for reproduction and in plants, male plants transfer polling grains to female plants.

He also indicated that even electricity needs positive wire and negative wire combined to generate power. Mr. Ahiafor therefore stressed that LGBTQI activity will not be encouraged in any form by human beings in the country.

On his part, Samuel Nartey George MP for Ningo Prampram constituency, a key sponsor of the bill commended all the 275 MPs for supporting the bill to this stage. He lamented that the Western world cannot push the LGBTQI act in the throats of Africans just because of financial support.

He threatened that if the Western powers replicate the sanctions given to Uganda’s Parliament to Ghana’s Parliament and speaker they will also take action against their business interests in this country.
