Linford Asamoah, Eastern Regional Football Association Chairman, believes a massive improvement has been made in grassroots football in the country under Kurt Okraku’s tenure as FA president.

According to him under Kurt’s tenure, Ghanaian football has seen a massive facelift after being dissolved four years ago in the aftermath of an investigative documentary by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

During the GFA’s 29th Congress on Monday, Kurt Okraku in his address made several significant announcements, including plans which are underway to establish a coordinating office in Accra to oversee the operations of Regional Football Associations (RFAs).

Kurt also stated that the Association will provide GHC 100,000 for the purchase of footballs to support regional competitions, ensure adequate equipment for young players and promote grassroot football.

He added that Regional FA chairpersons will receive pickups to enhance their mobility and administrative capacities, enabling them to serve their regions more effectively.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM, Mr. Asamoah lauded the efforts of the FA president to improve grassroot football in the country.

“After we were handed power by the football people in 2019, the following year, we were hit with COVID so lots of initiatives couldn’t be undertaken. Looking at the significant plans announced by the Executive Council, a majority is going to favor grassroot football in the country. The Catch Them Young Referees policy like this is a phenomenal initiative. Every sector of Ghana football is going to strive under these initiatives”.

The Ghana Football Association will hold its general elections in October this year and will see the election of new executives, including the highly contested position of the presidency.
