Ashanti Gold vs GFA: Verdict on match-fixing case delayed

The Accra Human Rights Court has again postponed its judgement in the Ashanti gold and Ghana Football Association (GFA) match-fixing case.

The decision, which was scheduled to be delivered on Tuesday, July 18th, has now been rescheduled for Monday, August 21st, 2023.

Ashanti gold’s appeal against being demoted to Division Two after being found guilty of match-fixing by the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee is the central issue in the case.

Both Ashanti gold and Inter Allies were found guilty of fixing their league match, which resulted in a 7-0 victory for Ashanti gold on July 17, 2021.

After exhausting all avenues within the GFA, Ashanti gold have turned to the Human Rights Court in the hope of overturning their demotion and securing a fair hearing from Ghana’s football governing body.

Meanwhile, the former Ghanaian champions have been suspended from all activities at the recent GFA Ordinary Congress after dealing with their Chairman Dr Kwaku Frimpong, who is serving a long-term ban due to match-fixing.

In October 2022, the court dismissed Ashanti gold’s interlocutory injunction on the Ghana Premier League.
