Asante Kotoko: If Otumfuo doesn’t invest in the club, no one would – Owusu Bempah

Veteran sports journalist, Owusu Bempah has urged the life patron of Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to invest more in the club if he wants to revive the club back to its glory days.

Assessing the performance of the Porcupine Warriors for almost over the last two decades, especially in Africa, Owusu Bempah explained why the team has struggled to punch above its weight.

According to him, it is now difficult to even watch games of the club because the club lacks quality and is low on investments, hence the need for Manhyia to invest more into the club.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM, he said,” Once upon a time in the history of Asante Kotoko, between 1967 to 1973, the club made it to four finals of the CAF Champions League and even after Kotoko defeated Al Ahly in the 1983 finals, They had more CAF CL trophies than Al Ahly which was two. Since then, Asante Kotoko still has two and Al Ahly has 12. This is sad. Otumfuo needs to invest more into the club because the patriotism people had for the club in the past is no more”.

Owusu Bempah also bemoaned the poor attendance of supporters of the club to games. According to him, whenever Asante Kotoko participated in Africa, it was seen as a platitude at the time.

Keen on turning things around for next season, Asante Kotoko earlier this month dissolved the Board and Management of the club.

The club is reportedly in talks to set up a new board and management team.
