The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has responded to the relentless #FixTheTrafficLights campaign by Happy 98.9 FM regarding the dire consequences of malfunctioning traffic lights across the country’s capital, Accra.

The response issued by the Acting Director-General of NRSA, Ing. David Adonteng, expressed appreciation for the radio station’s dedication to promoting road safety and assured the public that immediate action would be taken to address the issue.

For weeks, Happy 98.9 FM has been using its airwaves to carry the plights of concerned citizens who have been affected by malfunctioning traffic lights in Accra. The campaign gained significant momentum with appeals made to both the Department of Urban Roads and the Ministry of Roads and Highways, highlighting the urgent need for action to ensure road safety.

In response to Happy FM’s efforts, the NRSA acknowledged receipt of a letter and praised the radio station for its commitment and dedication to promoting road safety education. Ing. David Adonteng, on behalf of NRSA, expressed sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused by the malfunctioning traffic lights and assured the public that their concerns were being taken seriously.

The NRSA affirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency in the traffic system. To address the issue, the NRSA promises to involve its technical team to collaborate with relevant authorities to find a quick solution

“The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) would continue to ensue the highest standards of safety and efficiency in our traffic system. Please be assured that your feedback has been shared with our technical team for a follow-up on actions from our collaborating partners in this regard,” the letter read.

To enhance safety measures, the NRSA has taken additional steps to improve communication with the relevant authorities and will sensitize the general public on appropriate measures to take at affected locations while the situation is being remedied.

This response from the NRSA marks a positive step towards resolving the issue of malfunctioning traffic lights in Accra. With the NRSA’s commitment and collaboration with relevant authorities, commuters can look forward to safer and smoother journeys on the roads shortly.

Happy 98.9 FM’s campaign has once again demonstrated the power of media in advocating for positive change and promoting road safety awareness in the community.
