Security Expert Adib Saani has expressed skepticism about the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) efforts to investigate former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah, for alleged corruption.

In a recent interview on Happy 98.9 FM’s “Epa Hoa Daben” socio-political talk show, he criticized the current focus on surface-level issues and emphasized the urgent need to address the fundamental problem of corruption in Ghana.

Regarding the ongoing investigation into Cecilia Dapaah’s alleged financial misconduct, Mr. Saani voiced his concerns about the efficacy of the OSP’s actions, labeling them as superficial.

“All these news about Cecilia Dapaah and the monies and OSP’s arrest and investigations are superficial. We need to deal with the fundamental issue of corruption in Ghana. We know the OSP and seen its operations. Have they been successful prosecuting?”

He argued that merely arresting and investigating individuals like Cecilia Dapaah would not be enough to tackle the deeply rooted issue of corruption in the country. He stressed the importance of tangible results rather than mere statements and questioned the OSP’s track record in successfully prosecuting corrupt officials.

He further suggested that the OSP had become overly political over the years, potentially compromising the neutrality and effectiveness of the office. Despite his reservations, Saani expressed a glimmer of hope that the OSP would prove him wrong this time by rigorously pursuing the case to its rightful conclusion.

“Ghanaians are very aware how political the office has become and what is going on there over the years. I honestly hope they’ll be able to succeed this time around but if you ask me about my faith in the OSP, it’s almost zero. I can only hope they can prove me wrong this time around by following the case to the latter,” he added.

Cecilia Dapaah’s arrest by the OSP on Monday came after revelations in court documents suggesting that she had large sums of money stashed in her house, stolen by her domestic staff, who were subsequently apprehended and brought before the court. This discovery has since sparked public outrage, leading to a thorough investigation of the former minister’s financial affairs.
